No, we don't need to be able to speak to children in the way they speak to each other. Slang for children is to make the things that matter to them more tangible for them, not us. We are guides, not peers, and we should be able to give them the guidance we are here to provide without sounding like uneducated nutcases. It's another thing entirely if you speak this way already, then you have just as much of an effort to make to clean up your speech in a "professional" environment as the children you're supposed to be setting an example for. Leave the silliness to the children, and relate to them the best way you know how, instead of "cramping their style" and trying to be like them. If you're anything like the other young adults I know, we have a language all our own that's complicated enough without trying to add an extra verbal cool factor.

My two cents...

That is the singlemost hilarious grocery store recap I've heard in a while! It amazes me how little variation there is in the average diet, outside of trying the *insert-fast-Frankenfood-chain-here* on the other side of town, and how little people really know about what your food can do for you. I was talking to someone the other day and telling them how food is supposed to be a sensual experience and that eating isn't only for survival, otherwise it would all taste and look the same. Good for you feeding yourself yummy stuff! I hope it was good...

haha this is a funny post. yeah all kinds of 'exotic' veggies are showing up in the supermarkets these days. Kale is good but it is a bit bitter, you should try swiss shard! it's also a dark green but it has a much milder flavor (similar to spinach) with all the health benefits!

Congratulations to President Obama and the people of the US of A.

As a foreigner who wants good things to happen in any and all parts of the world, I wish Americans will work more in harmony with their president. How successful Obama can be as American president will depend on how well his fellow-Americans can rein in their demands for their expectations to be satisfied.

Starla,

thank you for sharing that website. It is loaded with useful (important) information. Gosh, I was storing a lot of my produce incorrectly.

This morning my body was invaded by this terribly groggy feeling (more than likely due to the White Castle I gobbled up last night after suffering a long, busy day at the salon) that threatened to keep me bound to the bed all day. I fought and crawled my way out. I was thinking, "okay, it's time!"

I gave up pork about 15 years ago and haven't looked back. I gave up beef about 10 years ago, but have regretfully been lured back from time to time. Poultry and fish have pretty much been my mainstays, which I'm okay with, but I would like to commit to only purchasing free-range organics. Also, it is imperative that my beloved and I return to a diet rich in veggies and fruit. So, we join you on this quest to healthy eating.

Here's wishing you the best!
